This world is one of many.

A fresh bloom among the seething mass of the multiverse.

It is virgin, untouched by divine hand or otherwise.

Though quiet now, a soft hum can be heard.

The first note of the symphony to come.

The energies of Creation wait here.

Could they feel they would be eager.

Someone will come forth to wield them.

Or maybe many will come.

Only time will tell.

As for what will be brought forth...

Popping into existence at the start, appropriate for The Beginning and the End, Victor Morte creates a brilliant main sequence star, with a pure white color, to kickstart the new universe.

After considering what to do next, Victor creates an Earth sized planet with standard everything(4 acts), and creates basic life(some plants, fungi, plankton, etc. The bottom rung, 1 Act). That spends all his acts for this turn.

Moments after Victor Morte's star begins to exist, Kinatar does as well, gazing deep into massive orb of plasma with a look of joyous wonder.

"Beautiful. But there must be more, yes?"

The tauric goddess winks at the cyclical snake god, then spends an act to make the star a bit more interesting. It changes in an instant, or perhaps an aeon, to have a slightly gemlike structure that causes the light it outputs to shift slightly towards the infrared.

"Better, certainly, but I shall have to do more."

The goddess muses for a short eternity, then reaches out to the sole planet and spends a bit more of her energy to shape a moon in just the right orbit to cause tides and all the other useful effects of a moon, then reaches out again and creates more life on the planet - small animals, tending towards small nomadic groups. She further divides them into predator and prey, ending with a variety of species no larger than rabbits and weasels, respectively. Kinatar also ensures that life can later take on her preferred shape, bestowing the small animals with six limbs.

"What shall we call this place, I wonder?"

Bork strides from the abyss into existence, stretching his arms and preparing for the work that is to come.

"We have the raw materials, now we must see to creation."

With a strike of his left hammer, the world is filled with a horde of small two-legged creatures. They spread quickly, and feast upon the verdant plant life that has sprouted across the land. With time they grow in speed, scurrying to and fro.

With a strike of his right hammer, the sky is alight with small winged creatures. They soar above the world, landing only to seek small berries and to rest their wings. As moments pass, generations of the creatures live and die, and as they do their wings grow in strength, allowing them to spend longer and longer in the skies.

With a strike of his left hammer, the seas are filled with small finned creatures that move to and fro, finding sustenance in the plants of the sea. They grow slowly, but time makes them the largest of the sea's creatures. Not an impressive claim now, but a start.

With a strike of his right hammer, the plants of the world refresh and renew, increasing in variety. The smallest of the world's creatures split and variation begins. Life continues to grow.

"There. The world is filled with meat for the claiming. Prey begets predators, however, so their dominance of the land will be short lived."

Create Small Life: 2 Acts for the long-flight birds

Post by SFR Mon Mar 06, 2017 4:37 pm

The Lurker is roused by the presence of other celestial entities and their creations. Peering from behind the veil of the unknown It inspects what has been brought into existence by the others. An emotion that could be described as annoyance or irritation stirs within It when It realizes that Order has been forced upon the Chaos that once existed within this new universe. However as It continues to observe, the annoyance passes and is replaced with mischievousness.

Once the World has been created and seeded with life, The Lurker sows his own chaotic seeds of life far and wide across this budding world. The seeds of Chaos latch themselves onto the smallest of organisms on the planet and drastically alter them in ways that could never occur through the natural order of things. These creatures grow in size and intelligence all over the land wherever other life can be found. Resembling their prior state, these new amorphous organisms share the qualities of what they once were.

Having no defined shape, these amoeba-like gelatinous organisms are able to change their shape by extending and retracting pseudopods. Small in size these creatures are capable of both sexual and asexual reproduction via binary fission depending on what would be more successful in any given environment. Biologically immortal they do not suffer the effects of aging and can exist virtually forever without any outside influence. Compared base amoebas that are quite slow in their movement, these new creatures are much faster as they need to be in order to predate on the other animals that currently populate the planet, their movement speed through liquids much faster than that on land. Though they are equally capable of digesting other organic matter as well. Meat simply contains more energy for them to flourish. In other words they are omnivores and detritivores. Being very adaptive as long as there is a sustainable food source they can use to thrive, they can be found virtually in any environment where there is other life. When other sources of food are unavailable they can become cannibalistic. Like normal amoebas, these spawns of Chaos ingest their food by phagocytosis.

Inspecting what It has created, The Lurker seems quite pleased and proud of itself. However It feels that there is something missing to truly bring about chaos to this new World. In a flash of inspiration, It imbues these slime creatures with the glint of intelligence so that they may truly spread chaos through new and interesting ways. Once It is satisfied with what It has made, It returns to the unknown spaces between everything to observe what sort of amusing reactions shall be seen from all within the World and Heavens.

Azreal joins this existence leaving a long dying planet behind. They observe what has already been created, and move to act on their own.

"And predators become prey to yet larger beasts."

Azreal slowly forms the features of a larger creature with many legs, designed for both climbing and bursts of speed. While not particularly intelligent, an array of eyes gives it good sight and a selection of natural claws makes it effective at grabbing and killing prey. Carnivorous and aggressive, with a hard, white exterior shell.

With a motion, they begin to multiply and they are placed within crevices and tall plant life to ambush and stalk their prey.

And one must not forget a clock, something by which to track time.

Glancing further, he motions another, smaller, barren, planet into being, closer to the star that would cause a regular solar eclipse.

Kinatar investigates the slimes and spiders as they begin to exist, frowning slightly.

"These shall surely be a challenge to all forms of life, but perhaps a literally omnivorous species with so few limits so soon is a poor choice."

The tauric goddess resolves to devise a method to allow her favored species to defend themselves against the widespread depredations of the slimes.

Godhood: A new eon. Empty Re: Godhood: A new eon.

Post by KatoHearts(A) Tue Mar 07, 2017 12:06 am

And then it all began.

Victor Morte was the first, bringing light in the form of a main sequence star, bright and strong.

It was, for the briefest instants, alone before they commanded that the first planet be born, a hardy healthy thing.

Life barely had to be called to it, it was already ready to be.

Soon after, Kinatar was set to work.

She took the first star and polishes like a gem, perhaps a touch less bright but more warm in its light

The goddess muses for a time before calling up a moon for the first planet and sets the tides in motion.

Not satisfied with the first world's simple life she spreads new creatures, predator and prey, across it.

She, of course, adds her own personal touch and blesses the new species with six limbs.

Bork was next to enter the universe, likely following a path he himself created.

He immediately set to work, each blow of his hammer calling forth new life on the first planet.

The first blow begat simple two legged creatures who supped on the bounty of the land.

The second blow spread long flying birds across the world.

The third filled the seas with fish, simple but numerous.

The final blow split the most basic life of the planet further, doubling the variety of producer organisms

The Lurker awakens, displeased with the sudden appearance of ordered creations.

It responds in kind with its own creation, deceptively simple ameboid omnivores with quite the appetite for... everything.

As a final joke It blesses this blight with the spark of intelligence.

The final god to enter the universe this eon is Azreal.

He quickly creates a new predator on the first planet.

They take the form of very large spiders, ambush predators rather than web spinners.

Finally, perhaps deciding that the galaxy is a touch too empty, He brings forth the second planet, a small barren world.

With that, the gods rest and recover while the universe swirls around them.

It begins with a sonata preformed solo.

The sound, the roar of the first star, Eternus, calling the rest of the orchestra to the fore.

One by one they fade, blink, and fill the perfect void of space.

Stars, nebulae, meteors, they all join the stellar chorus, called forth by the first act of creation.

The universe is truly born and things begin to change.

The life that Victor Morte called forth quickly flourishes without predation to hinder its spread.

The new moon would have cause quite a stir, had anyone been alive to witness it. Instead it quietly tends to the tides and makes the first planet more geologically active.

Kinatar's minor change to Eternus' light is easily adapted to by the simple life of the first planet.

The first real animals, both predator and prey, go about their business. Their populations are kept in check through relatively stable boom and bust cycles.

Bork's burst of life is, for the most part, adapted into the growing food chain easily. The land beasts and the birds fit in well enough but the sea life population is grows quite quickly without predation. Typically predatory aquatic life would form in response to the decreasing amount of plant life but Bork's choice to further increase the amount of producers found on the planet have staved this off for now. In fact, the variety of producers and autotrophs has basically doubled all across the first planet, ensuring a solid basis for all food chains.

Unfortunately, though, The lurkers species is the main one to profit from this. Given their appetites, lack of reliable predators, and explosive reproductive method, they experience a massive population boom. This leads to a food crash naturally, mass cannibalism, and eventually changes in their behavior. The ecosystem eventually recovers and the slimes that result are larger, more solitary and reproduce only when there's enough food to support the new member. Their more solitary nature leads to them roaming farther apart and this, mixed with their intrinsic adaptability, leads to some rapid speciation. Basically, while a slime can adapt to any given environment if provided with sufficient food and time slimes that inhabit an area for an extended time exhibit far more advanced adaptions than those available to the typical slime out of its element. An example is the common plains slime, which has moved past simple grazing and picked up photosynthesis though they a bit more sluggish than the average. Other species exist of course and you'll find these pests in the unlikeliest of places.

Azreal's spiders took to the trees when the slime plague happened and without their typical prey they've started to branch out. Some can stomach the slimes, others stuck to hunting the usual prey and a few began hunting other spiders though they number very few. They've also become rather solitary, as befitting the current apex predator of the planet. While they can spin silk they don't spin webs, preferring to catch and immobilize their prey in silk personally.

And with that the time has come.

The gods stir from their rest but...

It seems their number has grown.

Someone lurks at the edge of the universal bubble.

Nysela winks into existence, taking a brief eon to watch and observe the other deities and their creations. Smiling to herself, she cups her hands and a goodly-sized asteroid coalesces into existence.

"The tapestry of life is well woven, it seems. But let us add a snarl to the weave, shall we?"

She focuses, imbuing power into the rock before her as she wills the universe's laws to shift slightly. Psionics - the instinctive or conscious power of the mind - is born. She focuses said power into the asteroid, such that only the mineral the asteroid is made of can imbue or grant such power.

"Your creations grow and live and thrive. Let us introduce hardship. Let us see what life can be lucky enough, or determined enough, to survive...and in the aftermath, which amongst them can find this power first."

So said, she flings the rock towards the planet, her smile turned impishly cruel as she claps her hands excitedly.

My, isn't this going to be exciting?

Godhood: A new eon. Empty Re: Godhood: A new eon.

Post by Alcyius Tue Mar 07, 2017 12:10 am

The Beginning taken care of, Victor quickly moves to establish a cycle.

And he said, "For Life cannot exist without Death, and Death cannot exist without Life, let there be a realm to link the ends of this cycle together. Thus shall be, The Kingdom of the Dead."

With those words, the new plane of existence springs into being, an unending expanse of flat and dusty plains, apart from Reality, but close enough that where many ensouled beings die in a short time, it might bleed over. This new realm was empty and desolate, a bare waste stretching out, for now...

"But Creation is merely the beginning. What IS must be reshaped to serve my purpose."

And with that, the Kingdom of the Dead lurched, slow and groaning, to reshape itself to Victor’s will. The first thing to form was The Well of Souls, a great portal at the center of the realm, where souls are created, where the souls of the dead return to the Kingdom, and where the souls leave to be reincarnated.

From there, the core of the Kingdom reshaped, into the great Necropolis, a seemingly unending stretch of tombs, simple and unadorned, waiting for the races and cultures of the mortal world to reshape them into something grand, where their souls might rest for all eternity. Outside the core, was the Unending Wastes, a desolate expanse of dusty plains, untapped, but one day, the other Gods might reshape parts into their own domains, rewards for their followers, or perhaps even, the souls that refuse to rest might take to the Wastes to build their own kingdoms.

Next, Victor devised the Trials, great structures around the Well of Souls, meant to cleanse souls that wish to be reborn. For this, he created three special places: The Spire of Judgement, sitting high above the Well, so that newly arrived souls might float to it, where souls are judged for their lives, and where it is determined what creature they shall reincarnate as; The Citadel of the Sanctified, to the south of the Well, where souls are cleansed of their memories, and those memories are stored to be reunited with the souls when they return to the Kingdom of the Dead; and finally, The Path of Rebirth, the two great roads that curve from the Citadel around the Well of souls, meeting at it’s northern end, where souls may enter the Well to be reborn.

He creates the Seats, his throne as King of the Dead, a great citadel that eclipses the ghostly sun that illuminates the Kingdom of the Dead; and the Tombs of the Lords(which sit empty for now, but whom he will fill with worthy servants when the time comes), three great tombs in the Trials, housing the Arbiter, who judges souls; the Archivist, who cleanses them; and the Shepard, who watches the souls enter the Well of Souls to be reborn. Finally, within his citadel in the sky, he creates the Court of the Dead, which he will one day fill with the Nobility of the Dead, a race he will one day create, when the first creatures with souls arrive.

Finally, Victor creates a pocket, far below the dusty plains of the Kingdom of the Dead, a pocket that is dead for now, but primed. Here is the Kingdom of the Damned, where those who destroy the souls of others will be consigned to torment for all eternity, and eventual oblivion after that. For as The Cycle Everlasting, the only great Sin in Victor's eyes is the destruction of a soul, the barring of another entity from the cycle of reincarnation and rest.

"It is almost, but not quite finished. Azreal, might I enlist your help in creating my Lords, for I am skilled in matters of life and death, I lack the knowledge to truly judge a soul. I seek an Arbiter, to judge a soul’s deeds in life, and to choose for where they should reincarnate, so that their soul might grow; a Pure One, whom shall carefully cleanse souls of their memories, and store them in wait of their return; and a Custodian, to watch over them as they journey the Path of Rebirth. Perhaps Kinatar might help with these as well.”

"But for now, let me introduce new Death to the world, for it seems life is running rampant. Disease and Pestilence, a check on rampancy, I bring you to this realm. Let you hold life in balance, preventing the domination of one species over all others. You will preserve diversity, and prevent overpopulation. You are my scythe, a tool to shape the garden of life, and a weapon to make sure it doesn't end itself."

OOC: Suppose I should specify exactly how the Afterlife works.
1) Souls are created in the Well of Souls, and go to newly born sapient species.
2) Souls live their life, die, enter the Afterlife again, via the Well.
3) Souls ascend to the Spire of Judgement, where they are judged, and given options. If they had previously reincarnated, it is here where their old memories are restored to them.

  • Souls that saved many lives, or ended many lives, are sent to the Court of the Dead King, to be reborn as a Noble Dead, which Victor will make in the next turn or two.
  • Souls that served a God are given the opportunity to go to their realm, if it exists.
  • Souls who do not wish to reincarnate are allowed to rest peacefully in the Necropolis.
  • Souls who don't want to reincarnate, but don't want to sleep forever, are allowed to journey to the Unending Wastes, an endless expanse of dusty plains with dead grass and the occasional desiccated tree, with sparse useful minerals underground, to do whatever.
  • Souls can reincarnate. Souls can return to the Spire of Judgement at any time to reincarnate. Once this option is chosen, there is no going back without being obliterated.
4) Souls that choose to reincarnate are then sent to the Citadel of the Sanctified, where the Archivist reviews their life, stores it in the Archives, and cleanses the soul of the memories. When the soul returns to the Afterlife, they are rejoined with their memories of past lives.
5) After this, souls travel the Path of Rebirth, two great highways curving around the Well of Souls. They are accompanied by The Shepard, who guides them to the Terminus, where they jump into the Well.
6) Souls are reincarnated into the next appropriate host, as determined by The Arbiter.

"Well, two, to be exact," Victor says, elaborating his plans.

He pauses for a moment, considering his words, before continuing.

"The Arbiter, Lord of the Spire of Judgement, shall judge souls who wish to reincarnate. He shall view their lives, and determine where they should be sent next, so they might grow. The Archivist, Lord of the Citadel of the Sanctified, shall then part the soul from their memories, storing them so that when the souls return, they might be reunited."

He then turns to Kinatar, saying,

"From you, I ask for a Shepard, to guide these purified souls along the Path of Rebirth, that they might be reincarnated in the mortal realm once more. Together, these three entities shall maintain the machinery of reincarnation."

OOC: These function as three unique entities, immortal, invested with the powers of Judgement, Memories, and Guidance respectively. They cannot leave The Kingdom of the Dead, and furthermore are restricted to their respective Trial, and the Court of the Dead. They are non-biological and are intelligent(logically and emotionally) but do not have souls of their own, instead having a spark of divine power. ~2 Acts Each, ~6 total. I'll invest 1 act into each of their creation next turn.

Kinatar frowns at Nysela, and acts swiftly to break up the asteroid into smaller chunks. There shall still be a Cataclysm, this universe's first, but it shall have a slightly lighter touch and greater spread than Nysela perhaps intended.

"Have no fear, little sister, there shall still be fireworks for you."

The slightly elder goddess ruffles her younger sib's "hair", and turns her attention to the world below. Her hexapodes have, thankfully, managed to survive the slimepocalypse and even flourish a bit, but still need a defense from the slimes. She scoops up a handful of phages created by Victor Morte and modifies them.

No longer simple viruses, the phages become a sort of symbiote-parasite. They target all animal species and take up residence in the skin or exoskeleton, enveloping itself in a protective protein shell. This causes no real harm to most creatures, save for the growth of hardened keratin horns, spines, and plates where the phage population is denset upon the skin of its host. This fulfills the symbiote phase.

And for the parasitic phase, should the keratin be dissolved, the virus seeks to attach to the nucleus of the cell whose protein markers match the phagocytotic process and reproduce until the cell bursts, expelling spores into the atmosphere.

As a thanks to Victor Morte, Kinatar also builds in a downside for the symbiotic host - rarely, an otherwise normal host will experience rapid and uncontrolled growth of the keratin plates, such growth so rigid and interconnected that movement becomes difficult if not impossible.

"And thus, the slimes are less of a danger to all."

Kinatar then turns her attention from the microscopic to her many species of hexapedal life, and choose from among them the one best suited to her designs. It lives mostly in the plains and savannahs of the world, longer of leg and stronger of spine. Omnivorous, it resembles a cross between the foxes and cats of another reality, with bushy tails and pointed snouts as well as retractable claws and respectable night vision.

To this species in particular she grants three things: A name, intelligence, and larger size. She speaks as she acts, not to her creations but simply to reality.

"First, thy name, my children. I dub thee Vaikrate. Second, to thee I grant the size to enact thy will. You shall rival Azreal's arachnids in size, and you shall claim dominion over the plains and savannahs of the world. Lastly, to you I grant intelligence and instinct: Nomads of the tribal kind you will be."

As she wills so it, so mote it be: the Vaikrate grow larger and with this growth develop intelligence. Their generational increase in size halts when they outmass Azreal's spiders, if only just - the Vaikrate end up roughly the size of a moose, outmassing the spiders but not so much to be considered "large".

As the Vaikrate grow, Kinatar also interferes in their spines and paws. In the spine, a modified hip joint appears at the second set of limbs, allowing her chosen mortals to "sit" upright while four paws remain on the ground. To the first set of limbs, the paws reshape into hands, and to the second set, a paw which can grip and hold but does not have an opposable thumb.

With these last acts, Kinatar's form shifts into that of her Vaikrate, and she appears beside Victor Morte.

"I shall endeavor to create your Caretaker, friend. Simply name what you desire them to appear as - perhaps the ideal of my Vaikrate would be suitable?"

---------------------------

Turn the Psionic Asteroid into Psionic Meteors: 1

Victor paused to think, then turned to himself and gleaned insight, and declared,

"Let the Lords of the Dead be not limited to a single form. Instead, let them reflect the souls of the mortals, that they might be better served. My Arbiter shall reflect the figure of greatest authority, the person whom the soul being judged feels has the right to judge them. My Archivist shall take the form of the figure of greatest wisdom the soul being cleansed knew, the only person whom the soul can entrust their memories to. And let our Shepard reflect the figure of greatest compassion in the souls life, the person whom they would entrust their very existence to. When I replenish my power, I shall invest some into the creation of these beings, that they might carry out these tasks."

Kinatar nods, thoughtfully, then speaks.

"This is all well and good, friend Victor, but what shall thy Lords of the Dead appear as to we gods? We can invest in them to power to appear to mortals as you desire, but there should be some mark of provenance upon them if you desire our help in their creation. Is this agreed?"

Godhood: A new eon. Empty Re: Godhood: A new eon.

Victor turns to the newcomer, and reminds them,

"Not at all. Overzealous would be The Lurker, creating intelligence before there was even an afterlife. What if they had advanced enough to get souls? They would've vanished into the ether. And on that note, those Slimes are very dangerous to the diversity of life. I'm not complaining too much, because they created much delicious death, but there has to be some respect for balance."

OOC: As an aside, Victor is going to be monitoring all intelligent life for the first ones to start asking questions about the nature of life and death.

Kinatar shifts her attention to Nysela.

"Perhaps a touch overzealous, but their intelligence is still only just beginning. Your...gift shall arrive in time for them to adapt. And fear not, Victor, I believe the symbiote phage shall contribute most favorably to a balance in your cycle."

Nysela 'reclines' back, shrugging widely at the conclave of deities arrayed around her.

"Well then, I shall watch and wait. Do keep me entertained, older siblings~"

Her smirk turns from kindly to cruel once more.

Or I shall make my own fun...

Victor returns to Kinatar, having concluded his musings on what the Lords of the Dead shall look like to the Gods, and simply says, "I couldn't care less, as long as they do the job I have set out for them."

Bork regards the world as his creations, and those of the others, swarm across it. They live, and thrive, and then die. The simple, deceptive blobs consume beyond their reach, but adapt quickly, and Bork smiles upon them. He turns his gaze to the meteors and raises regards it evenly.

You speak true, newcomer. Hardship forges life into something greater than it was before.

Bork turns his gaze back to the planet. Its creatures of land and sky would soon know hardship through the meteors' landing. The sea though, the sea lacked. It was time to fix that.

Bork swings this right hammer, and large predators creep from the darkest depths of the oceans. Razor sharp teeth line their mouths. They bear no eyes, and instead sense through the movements within the water itself, reading currents and minor disturbances with an unnerving twitch of their heads. The creatures of the sea are not prepared, but they are plentiful.

Go forth, Ventar, and prey.

"I've a question, elder brother."

Nysela drifts in front of Victor, watching as he plans out his meticulous afterlife.

"Is this really what you want for our toys when they break? Surely it'd get dull watching them exist for their flittering existence only to then see them just plod about forever in your pretty cage, with even bigger toys to delegate your whims to. As lovely as it is to know that once they actually start asking the big questions they'll start having the willpower to try and earn your gifts, it seems a bit....overly restraining? To just have them waffle about after they've stopped working."

Nysela turns her attention over to Kinatar.

"Or is it supposed to be some big scheme to make your Vaikrate look forward to 'what lies beyond'?"

Azreal returns from his thoughts with two grossly incandescent balls of light. He presents these new forms to Victor to be placed in new positions in this afterlife.

"Here," Azreal motions the left orb forward "For the Arbiter, a divine creature of malleable form, designed to take upon itself from a soul the image of the most just the soul knew in life, for us, it appears as interlocking wheels covered in many eyes." The light dissipates from around the form, allowing the details to be seen. "I have gifted it the ability to weigh the past deeds of a soul, to decide its place"

Azreal then gestures the right orb forward. "And the Archivist, also of malleable form, instructed to take upon the image of the wisest being the soul knows. Once again, the light dissipates from around the form. "Appearing to us as nothing more than a grand book and quill, recording for the future all of a soul's knowledge, each gaining their own page, their memories able to be read by us and returned to the soul."

After placing these beings in Victor's care, he turns to see the new events on the world. He is satisfied to see that his creations have found their niche, and that this new phage is only granting them greater protection from both the amoebas and these new Viakrate.

Victor looks upon Azreal's work, and sees that it is grand.

"And in my Court of the Dead, now two of the Lordships are filled. For now, they lie dormant, but very soon, souls will come into being, and the Kingdom of the Dead will thrum with their passage. It shapes up nicely, and for their Repose, I grant these souls Rest or Reincarnation, or even Freedom, and even Reward to those who take my power to heart. Thus, the beautiful machinery of my Kingdom is nearly done."
